I nominated Vanille Patisserie for a GNR last time, but there wasn't enough dedicated discussion, but given this thread, this could be the year. I have nominated another restaurant for the honor this year, but if someone wished to nominate Vanille for a GNR designation, I would certainly support the nomination. Since I have been away from Chicago pretty much since last March, it has been at least a year since I have been to Vanille. People had raised the question of inconsistency last time, and I don't know if that has been resolved. Almost everything that I have ordered at Vanille (with an exception or two) has really been wonderful.

I encourage someone to nominate this best patisserie for a GNR. The deadline is tonight.
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

BTW, the Fox-Deal-of-the-Day today is Vanille... a dozen macrons for 5 bucks! (I believe all you have to do is tell them youre looking for the Deal of the Day.. dunno if its advertised). Iam off to get my macarons now, actually - given the promotion, they'll hopefully be fresh too!

Thank you for posting. My husband just picked up a dozen at the French Market. Great deal!

Darn it. This is why I need to read every thread every day, first thing in the morning.

Vanille now under new ownership. Wonder how this will affect the quality?

Public service announcement: Vanille is no longer on Clybourn. They are now located at 2108 N. Clark St. (in addition to their French Market location).

Dogs need dessert, too. This became clear as Sophie Evanoff scouted the location for her third outpost of Vanille Patisserie in a former hat shop at 3243 N. Broadway.

A manager was hosting a "coffee and connect" meeting and needed something to go with the coffee. I was bored by our usual breakfast pastry options (Corner Bakery, Sopraffina, Alonti) so I turned to the internet for inspiration. I discovered that Vanille has catering options! I zeroed in on the assorted breakfast pastries - sweet and savory. This assortment includes mini croissants (chocolate, raisin, ham & cheese, bacon & egg, spinach ricotta) and a few varieties of mini danish (apricot, cheese, cherry). A small tray includes about 30 pastries for $65. In the interest of quality control, I tried a chocolate croissant and a spinach ricotta croissant. Both were wonderful. Vanille still has game with croissants. Easy pick up from the French Market on my way into the office.

Sorry, but if they shut down on the FIRST day of the closures, they were already on life support. Bad news, but don't blame COVID-19, there were other underlying issues. And, isn't most of their business take out, not dine in?

They probably anticipated that take out business would be slow since all of the university students got sent home for Spring quarter.

The Vanille locations that are still open are running some nice specials, actually. Does anybody want a toilet paper cake?
