This Greek gyros spot is tucked into a small strip mall just south of Touhy. They have been open about 7 months but I had overlooked it on my travels.

Well let me tell you, my trips up Milwaukee Ave are gonna take a little longer from now on!

It’s a small menu, pork gyros and souvlaki, lamb and beef kabobs, chicken gyros and kabobs. A couple other items plus an incongruous Chicago style hot dog.

The pork gyros is fantastic, layered meat ( not ground) with great crispy edges while still moist and flavorful and tzatziki aa good as any I’ve ever had. On their lamb and beef kabob plate they offer a mild red sauce which is excellent mixed with the tzatziki and just like what I had in Glifada.

I see many more visits in the future. The family running it are super friendly and obviously proud of their offerings.

This place is on our short list. I saw a post on Nextdoor from a Forest Glen resident. She stated that after dining at Super Pitas her car wouldn’t start. Hours after waiting for her insurance road service to show up the owner stepped in, brought his own tools and van over and got her car to start. Asked for nothing in return. Other people chimed in to say how nice the owners are. And that the food is good. It stuck with me. Thanks for the encouragement to get there soon.

This is absolutely house made. Layered pieces of marinated pork on a spit. No ground pork. The lamb beef bifteka was ground but I didn’t have that on my visit. I’ll be shocked if that isn’t house made as well.

I ate there about a week ago. Completely forgot to post about it. Had the lunch special with pork gyro. Definitely homemade and definitely yummy.

    Nope. Beef, beef/lamb, chicken.

In case it isn't already clear from Octarine's post upthread (and the menus now pictured and linked below), the meats at Super Pitas are prepared in house. We had a nice lunch today at SP, which is just a tad over a mile from my office. Very good food, extremely friendly service and a nice, comfortable space. First up, the menu . . .

    Image
    Pork Gyros Plate
I really enjoyed the meat, the pita and the tsatziki. The meat was juicy, crispy and nicely fatty. It was a bit under-seasoned but the Greek Kalas salt on the table was the perfect cure for that. The pita was nicely grilled and the tsatziki was thick, flavorful and obviously high in quality.

    Image
    Pork Gyros Plate, no fries
My companion ordered his without fries. That was no great loss. As you can see above, the fries were nicely seasoned but a bit undercooked and soft.

Super Pitas' Spits - Pork left, Chicken right
This is what will absolutely keep me coming back. Just a beautiful sight.

The obvious comparison with Super Pitas is nearby Charcoal Flame (6800 Dempster, Morton Grove), which puts out a very comparable pork gyros. Meat over meat, I'll give the edge to Super Pitas, mainly because it was moister and fattier. But I like the overall menu better at CF because it's deeper and provides more ways to enjoy the gyros meat. Next time at Super Pitas, I'll try the chicken, too. As you can see from the pic of the spit above, it looks great.

Last night we were surrounded by several extended Greek families. Efficient service even with 15 orders in 5 minutes and a really nice piece of feta added to round out our pork gyros platters. Every time I go, I wonder why I wait so long between visits.

Pork Gyros at lunch earlier this week were as wonderful as they were on visit one but pork souvlaki was the star of the show . . .

    Image
    Souvlaki Merida, aka #4

These seasoned and marinated chunks of tender pork were well-charred and lightly crisp on the outside. The meat was juicy. This was a very satisfying plate. And again, the tsakziki is excellent here. The only negative, and it was a minor one, was the fries. We ordered them well-done and we were accommodated. They were flavorful and were definitely better than last time. However, even though they were cooked longer, it seems they're only fried once, so they're just never going to be super crispy. And really, that's fine. It makes it much easier to not eat them all.

Just loving that Super Pitas is ~1 mile from the office. Thanks again, Octarine, for putting this place on the radar (and into our regular rotation).

I pulled into Super Pita a month or so ago, decided to check the menu on my phone and realized they were gyro not hummus/falafel. I had a bad experience with a pork gyro plate within the last 6-months and its put me (temporarily) off gyro, pork or otherwise.

I left went to Detroit Kabab, a little farther North on Milwaukee, and had hummus and falafel. When I swing back to gyros the pork gyro at Super Pita, which looks fantastic, will be first on my list.

I keep trying Detroit Kabab as I really like Arax foods and its right next door. Its a C at best, with the last time a D- as they turned on the fryer when I ordered falafel, rushed it, and I ended up with enough oil soaked into my falafel to lube a Fruehauf.

After purchasing Dungeness Crab at H Mart this morning , stopped by Super Pitas for a Pork Gyros ($6.68), 11:30am.
Probably the best and certainly the largest Gyros I have ever eaten!
    The fries were a bonus!
Was told 40 minutes for a 3 person take out as they were backed up 16 sandwiches so only ordered one which took about 5 minutes.
Two people could have eaten that one sandwich!
Next time I will call ahead and try some Chicken Gyros also.

    Richard,
I was in the restaurant at the same time as you. We must have crossed paths.

They were behind, but I did not mind the wait. Great sandwich. I had the meal, which included fries on the side. Fries on the side were crispy and seasoned. Much preferred these to the fries on the sandwich. Fries on the side are thoughtfully not over salted and each table has Greek sea salt to salt to taste. Worth a trip back. Very tasty Tzatziki and absolutely and clearly house made trompo stack for both pork and chicken.

No, I ordered just after the 4 top. I was along the wall on the other side from the windows.

Yes. Great sandwich. Next time I might consider asking them not to put the fries on the sandwich. Thought they got a bit in the way of the pork and Tzatziki. Could see eating it with the fries on top though, as a complete meal street food.

Stopped by last night with high hopes because of the homemade gyros. Welp the pita was great and that's about it. The pork was completely devoid of flavor. No seasoning at all. The tomatoes, fries and taziki were all on point, it was just the pork that was the letdown. I recently went to Charcoal Flame which also does the fries in the sandwich and makes their gyros in-house and loved it.

Fries limp & soggy, chicken gyro meat had char but was bland with a spongy texture and the accompanying sauce was not the tsakziki pictured up-thread but standard fry sauce*

Yes, I know, everyone is raving about the pork gyro not chicken, as I mentioned up-thread I had a bad experience with a pork gyro plate and its put me (temporarily) off pork gyros.

Prices reasonable, seating and parking a bonus with a slight negative for the two front facing employees who seemed less than enthusiastic about their jobs.

Lol, I don't know from chicken gyros.

Until I had the souvlaki the other day, I was feeling like SP was somewhat of a 1-trick pony. But as I posted upthread, it was (they were?) really good. Not quite at the level of the pork gyros but quite enjoyable. And the tsatziki is great, too. I wonder why you were deprived of it. Is it not served with the chicken gyros?

And yes, for me, the fries are an unfortunate missed bet. As I mentioned earlier, even cooked well-done, they're not crispy. And even laced in pork gyros drippings, they cannot overcome that. But in spite of that, there are some real highlights here.

Tender, very juicy with a light pack on the cone. Juice running down your chin.

I haven’t had the pleasure of trying Charcoal Delights yet (which is also very close) but it is very high on my list.

It very clearly says on the menu at the restaurant (and posted above) that the chicken gyros are served with a mayo sauce. In my limited experience in Greece, this is common, if not traditional.
