Office closing early. Meeting my wife in about 2 hrs. If anyone is out there , I need an idea.

I'm tired, so I want a bit of service and a bit of comfort. Beyond that, I'm wide open, foodwise.

Would like to exclude the few places I know well enough already, e.g. Sathers, Corner Grille, Angels, Kopi.

Who else does lunch and what do people like. Really wanted to try Hopleaf, but they don't open till later.

    Thoughts?

urban epicure should be open, and has gotten some positive reviews... sandwiches, salads, that type of stuff.

Thanks I'll take a look. (I had thought that they were a "gourmet" prepared foods/take-out sort of place. Had no idea they had service.)

I really like the lunch buffet at Reza's, but it might be below your requirements for service and comfort. The spread is vast, with quite a few very good choices.

yeah, starting at 11am daily (except tuesday), they have the "bistro", which is BYO and has a waitstaff. i've never been, so let me know how it is if you end up there.

how about turkish food? there's the Turkish Cuisine & Bakery at Clark and Bryn Mawr (5605 N. Clark). They Have lunch specials for about $6. I ate there several months ago and the food was wonderful. one dish we had was an appetizer, acili ezme, a spread of finely chopped vegetables with great spiceses - perfect with their fresh out of the oven bread. we licked the plate clean on that one!

I also had the adana kebab that was chopped lamb and beef, grilled crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside.

anyhow, wherever you go, let me know how it was!

    ciao

In Andersonville, I have always enjoyed Kan Zaman for middle eastern.

Too late to be of help today, but I recommend Svea's, the last authentic holdover (at least as far as restaurants are concerned) from when Andersonville was Swedish -- as opposed to the totally fake Ann Sather's. (Some of us may remember the real Ann Sather's on Belmont once upon a time, before it was bought out.) For real Swedish breakfast or lunch, Svea is very nice -- and inexpensive.

Kan Zaman is no longer. It was replaced by Zaky's, a middle eastern eatery run by a pleasant Jordanian family. It too, is gone.
